Hi Wyvern
I guess you could take her back a few years in general terms I think the flight deck was slightly modified and a catapult taken out of use but I am no expert I'm afraid so please chime in if you spot a large error or if you happen to have any pics of the starboard side low down. There appear to be some struts up to the flight deck level which I cannot find a precise position for. Logically they should be there. I spent the day redrawing the superstructure to get flat faces for the model construction. As with Spruance I shall apply the Forth Bridge construction method and build it with seperate thick sides it is quite a large lump. @Zathros sadly I am past putting anything out nice thought though. |

looks great Barry. the hull for you and John is still not right.I try to make it simple ,but building by section is the best.

Thanks gtb I am still ot happy the details in the stern gallery but there is time to fix that and I have made it a seperate part anyway. I would like to get a better rolled edge to the triangular flat lump at the bow but that's in the lap of the gods.

Basic hull
I think this is the basic hull for the Big E. It's the usual wedding cake design waterline plate, hanger deck and a false top deck maybe a huge waste of cardboard but the size of the overhang on the catwalk deck will need a lot of gluing space. It is 10 sheets of 10 x 7.5 inches to put together which will be off centre to try and avoid chunks of glue building up down the centre line. I found on Tarawa that this method gives a good chance of rigid catwalks. Luckily Enterprise has solid bulwarks not rails.
An A3 printer would be nice. It will not be as clean as gtb's hanger deck at least by the time this gets built I will have a good idea whether it can be done with a load of sections or not. This time there will be some inside detail and probably one lift lowered maybe two. As usual it all looks fine until you start to check each bit for unrolling then all the faults come tumbling out. I am on my 7th set of hull sides so far. |
