Barry's LSM 156 1/100 Scale

Well it appears that my build thread of the LSM was a casualty of the hard drive crash. Rats! :( While this news is bad, I'm just glad PM is back up and running again. A week without it really made me feel lost.

I'm not going to attempt to rewrite the thread notes, I'm just going to catch everyone up photographically with where I'm at. I've had a photo update ready for a while now, but been delayed posting due to the crash.

Bear with me and I'll dig up all the photos and get us back up to speed in a few....

Thanks!

Thanks Rick. Here is a summary of the story behind this project:

My best friend's grandfather who is turning 83 this year was 18 years old in 1945. He served on LSM 156 at Okinawa and other amphib operations in the late stages of the island hopping campaign. With Barry's help we're going to build his ship and give it to him this spring. :D

I've been wanting to do this project for him for some time.

So here is a photo catch-up to where I've come.

Thanks for the repost. Fortunately, I had saved the key construction notes before the recent problem. Look forward to the rest of the build.

A friend (JimR in this Forum) pointed out to me that your Arizona has been featured at the Steel Navy site. It looks good there, too.

Here is the photo update of what LSM 156 looked like early this week. I've placed the main decks on, and I've even put the bow deck on where the single 40mm resides, although it's not in these pictures.

I've put a couple of 1/100 Shermans in the well deck because I know Don will get a real kick out of it. :D So did I.

That brings us up to current state. I've started attaching the hull bottoms (keel plates) and I'm mid-way into that operation. I should have some nice shots of hull red up in a day or two.

Seeing those Shermans in the well deck made my day (I am in the office grinding through student evaluations, preparing for the next course, and working on the syllabus of an on-line elective - took a break to have a cup of joe and a peek to see if my friends were back on the air - will have to resist trying to catch up on all the news at once).

Thanks Don. I'm glad you saved my notes. I need to start that habit myself.

And thanks too for the Arizona complement. I was really pleased to see SN feature her yesterday. I had submitted her long ago and forgot all about it until a friend of mine in Columbia SC sent me a heads-up email yesterday....

Fortunately, some of your comments live in my memory. That is, the well deck build was lemonade out of lemon.
I look forward to your valuable present to your best friend's grandfather is taking shape squeezing lemon.

The Shermans really add to it and it looks like it holds 7 at a pinch which I think is the right number. Good job on the antitank bashing strips.
