Woo hoo! Don building models! Double woo hoos! Keep that (Excel) blade sharp and follow those Golden Bear tutorials that never got transferred here!

Seriously, good to see metal on paper.

Way to go Don!

Nothing wrong that I can see from where I sit. The most important part is the fun factor, as long as you enjoyed what you were doing, it is a sucessful build. I really like the added details to the boiler and that prop and shaft.

That Admirable Class Minesweeper is quite the project as I know. But there is lots of room for detailing and fiddley work. Here are some links you might find interesting

Admirable (MSF 136)
Links - USS Inaugural AM242
USS Hazard - Freedom Park, Omaha, NE

I also have about 70 or so photos and diagrams that I collected up showing the ships of that class and their systems, if you are interested I could probably burn them to a disc and send it to you, PM me.

Now when did you finish that one? I think you should try another pretty soon, this little launch looks great!

That's a great looking model that you have there, Don. I don't know how I missed it before now. You're a man after my own heart...Those extra little details form that second copy really make this beauty stand out.

Added bands and disc improves the appearance very much. I like such little ingenuity, Don

Thanks for the comments, all. It's nice to bask in the glow of praise from some of the finest shipmodel builders in the world.

I like my little steam launch, with all its flaws, and still hope eventually to work up to larger and more challenging projects -- still have a lot of crawling to do before trying to walk.

Work has preempted building lately, but if I get the contest Shiden built, and then finally finish an adequate Admirable, I'll be on my way.

Thanks for the additional references, Jay, and thanks for the kind comments Carl, Kevin, Jay, Jim, and Yu -- praise from Caesar, indeed!

Don

You like steam launches, huh? Try this little runabout (the one at the stern), which is part of the "Livadia" kit. It should scale up nicely.

Cheers,

Oliver

Now THAT is a beautiful little steam launch.

Thank you very much for making it available here, Oliver. You are the soul of kindness!

Although I cannot replicate your level of craftsmanship, I can't wait to try my hand at it. Perhaps I will be able to do so this weekend.

I find myself using Golden Bear techniques constantly. That's the way I cut parts and TRY to roll tubes. And little things, like using little wooden clothespins to clamp tweezers to hold parts. Of course, my results are not quite the same as Carl's . . . and that tube of Duco in my tool kit tends to be mostly for display, I'm afraid.
