Very nice job, Don.
Much appreciated for this scale, really attractive contrast of materials and the propeller in its cradle. Orazio |

If I am not mistaken, this looks like a thread from late 2007 that has gained new life. And I am glad it did. I admire this old Swedish boat. Nice work Don. Very straight and neat. At 1/111 scale, what is the lenght of the actual model?

Mike -- Yes. This is a revived thread. I was pleased to see my little steam launch come back into the limelight for a little while.
It is 3 inches long (about 75mm). The 1/111 scale is kind of a guess. I'd like to try building the Russian steam launch that Oliver so kindly provided in 1/87, so I can use one or two of the Preiser early 20th century merchant marine figures with it. Don |

Don,
I missed the original post, which was my loss. Very nicely done! May I suggest a scratch building project? Add a frame for a canvas cover. Print the canvas on tissue paper and rename it the “African Queen”. It would look great on your desk. Jim Nunn

Good idea, Jim! A trim little steam launch with an awning would be nice.
Someone built such a steam launch, but I can't find the thread just now. Don ps: Jim and I have an historical connection. Back in the days when he was messing about in boats in the South China Sea, he once provided security for our flank while a bunch of seasick Vietnamese soldiers and I motored in aboard an LCM. There was no steam and no awning, but a Vietnamese Navy patrol boat that looked very much like Roman Detyna's Digital Navy Admirable-class minesweeper was prepping the beach at the time. I'd like to believe that Padre's LSM(R), the USS White River, was in the vicinity, but that would have been too much of a coincidence. Last edited by Don Boose; 02-26-2009 at 06:16 AM. |

I went back in the arcives and started reading all of the threads, a lot of great stuff. I did down load the little Russian/Scottish steam lonch offered, but it is so small it may be beyond my skills at this point, but I will save it for later!

Glen! Of course! It was YOU who built the Ermine steam launch with the awning! How could I have forgotten? Please forgive the lapse, my friend.
Thanks for the kind comment, Bruce. And thanks for reviving this thread and giving my little steam launch some limelight, ct ertz! Don |

Oh please Don, thank you for even remembering that stalled project. It is cute, but I know very little about her hull shape, she was perhaps 40ft or so, and I would assume of somewhat shallow draft. From there some assumptions of her proportions would have to be made from the photos. Even though local interest isn't overwhwleming, it could be a fun boat just for the model community.
