How to prepare wooden look of decks?
I use self-adhesive plastic foils with wooden look. Foils are adhered to impregnated paper base. Usually I use sharp knife for cutting narrow stripes of foil. Finally is useful to warm up glued-up foils for perfect adhesion. Of course I use colors/acrylic paint for improvement and antique look.

I used parts from Shipyard´s model, but next two layers I made by my own for perfect surface, so there are four paper layers altogether. Top layer is impregnated by acrylic clear varnish and next I used primer filler for car-body. Grinding was necessary of course. The last layer is made of narrow foil strips with wooden structure.

On these photos there is only first layer of planking.

You have a great collection of ships Doris and beautifully built. Your Bellona is very pretty to my eye of course, how did you find that one went together? You may have explained but are the wood like patterned adhesive strips available in the US do you know? I have not seen such a nice build of the MM Cutty Sark, great job on that in a small scale, too.

I just gave up paper modelling. There is no way on earth I can ever make something like that so every model I make from now on is just going to depress me. The Victory is my favourite ship and that model is just out of this world. A million thanks for showing us the best model I've ever seen, if ever there was a POTW this is it.

Bye.
