I got the MM Cutty sark on order, rather looking forward to trying to build it. note the trying part. Always wanted to build a model of Cutty Sark after doing so many watercolours of it and other sailing ships over the years. I reckon everyone of my realitives and friends that got married or moved into a new house in the last twenty years has a water colour of a three or four master schooner that I have painted

Doris, I just checked this topic for the first time today. Your work is amazing!

Doorway on second gun level, why is that on all the models doris surely a fighting ship would not have a doorway and lose one gun?
Victory does indeed have an entry port on the second gun deck. I can't tell you if she was originally configured that way, or whether the port was added later.

Sails, that´s a question..... I plan to make some sails wrapped up, but at first all yards will be finished without sails. I´ll decide about it later , I´m still looking for ideas and interesting occasions.
There are many options to consider for displaying sails. Sailing ships rarely carried their entire suit aloft. In addition to the 'bare poled' and furled sails options, one could display her under battle sail, which is quite appropriate considering most sailing men-of-war are displayed with their guns run out, or, alternatively, with one of the many sail sets that would be used for a particular set of sea conditions. But whatever you choose, it is obvious that you have the skills to make it look good.

Cheers!

35years ago I started building wooden sailing ship but after cutting and assemblying 108 pieces of keel taking 5 months it completely wore me down and it still remain unbuilt.
Seeing your build I knew it is possible to build a sailing ship which has as same quality as wooden model. Cutting paper wouldn't cause me quivering hand.
It's great!!!

Dear friends!
I´m very honored and your words mean a lot for me. Thank you very much. I´m also grateful for your ideas and possibilities, how to improve the model. Yesterday I finished remaining yards, so now I ´ll make rigging. New photos will be soon.
Next Monday 15.3. 2010 we are going to start a new project with Jan (Firdajan) - own paper model of Sovereign of the seas 1/96. I´m looking forward to it a lot!

This would have been no problem anyway. Quite major works were done to ships in the hours before battle to put them in fighting condition. For example, all the contents of the stern cabins and even the walls forming them would be stripped away and stowed below, to provide a clear working space. Then guns would be rigged, some to add to the broadside and some (stern-chasers) facing backwards.

One task would no doubt be to clean up the entrance way, plug it up to gunport sill height, and rig a gun there. All the fittings for the breeching rope and gun tackles would already be in place.

By the way, Doris, this is a superb model!

Alan

Dear friends!
Thank you very much for your comments!
Victory is now finished from 80%, about 50% of rigging is tied up and flags were added. I suppose, it will take me about three months until I finish her. At this moment I´m starting a progress on Sovereign of the seas with my friend Jan, but I also will continue on Vicy. How I love this beautiful sailing-ships......

Hello, Doris;
Your models are simply beautiful. It must bring you great satisfaction to do such excellent work.
Thank you for sharing your methods with us: I am learning many things by just looking at the pictures. And thank you for sharing your photographs of the completed models. They are an inspiration, and also very nice to look at.
