Next in line was the frame skeleton. The frames should be reinforced with 2mm card board, but I prefer balsa wood, it`s more gentle to your fingers when cutting. After completion the whole skeleton was sealed with a pores filler.

Frame work looks great! And I like the balsa idea... When I get around to building my big ships, I may consider this (although I do have laser cut frames for several of them). Hope you have a big enough place to display this when done!!

Hi Chris,
about storage place, in my pharmacy there is a big cellar without windows and with constant temperature and humidity. Next a started the plating of the hull, beginning with the underwater part. At first sight it looked alright, but a nearer look showed dents and slits. So the hole thing was brushed with pores filler, then ground. The slits were filled with hot wax, the dents with a mixture of white glue and shredded paper handkerchiefs. Finally some layers of spray filling in between always grinding. When acceptable it was sprayed with color. Hans Gerd |

Wonderful, Hans Gerd! It is up to your usual extremely high standard and is on the way to being a true multi-media masterpiece.

Before attaching the side plates, the deck parts had to be glued. You have to start with the after deck because the hangar determines the position of the whole thing. The tracks inside are photo-etched. The next deck has to wait until some side plates are glued. I doubled the portholes with punched cardboard discs and also doubled the degaussing cable. One companionway on each side had to be fitted, they`re from the sheet. The gratings are from the photo-etched set, they fit quite well. After gluing the deck parts I discovered that the longitudinal beam was about 5mm too long!

Sure is aggrivating to have that kind of fit issue... But what a beauty you are building there! The effort you have put in this one makes me feel embarassed for the lack of "going the extra mile" that I put into my builds! Looking forward to more!!

I started plating the upper hull. Portholes were punched, they will be closed with Crystal Clear later, closed portholes were doubled, degaussing cable attached as well as the scupper pipes. Gaps between the sections were filled with hot wax.As the plating matches with the main deck, I cut the protruding part of the longitudinal beam.

When assembling the other side, I ran into disaster with the bow. There was no other way as to cut the part to fit, originating holes were closed with plenty of hot wax. The stern had to be smoothed and ground likewise.
