JSC Shimakaze 1:400
I started JSC's Shimakaze a week or so ago and since things have not been too bad, I decided to post some pictures (after following Rick's North Carolina build, I was a bit wary...).
P1010865.jpg P1010866.jpg The frame work... This model did not require any lamination, so it was easy to get started: P1010857.jpgP1010858.jpgP1010859.jpg This went together well, just didn't really pay very close attention, so there are a couple of bulges and waves.

Here the skin is attached.... In order to avoid some of the inperfections I left in the frame work, I only glued around the edges. Seems to have come out somewhat smooth. This is definately a arms lentgth model! Not sure if the fit is off or it was me (probably the latter), but the skins did not seem to cover all of the framework. Grey paint sure came in handy!!

Looks great so far, the fit is definetly not JSC's best. I enlarged this kit @ 2 years ago and had issues with the hull. The other parts of the kit went together very well, the turrets are a bit of a PIA to build up and when enlarged to 1/250 were a little "iffy" in fit but worked well. This is a sweet ship though and has some very sleek lines and profiles, and from what I remember was very fast, @34+ knots.

Well, we saw the USS Washington build, Darwin has enlarged and built up some, it looked like the Helena fit well but you'll have to check with him, I've built up the Hood, KGV, Indianapolis, Graf Spee and Card and they fit very well. I have their Yamato kit which won a gold medal/card model of the year design a ways back so I'm guessing that it fit well. On the kits that I've built there was a little "finagle" room with the hulls, meaning where they have the lines for suggested bulkhead placement, may not be the best placement for that part. All you have to do is keep that in mind for placement. This was a noticeable issue with the KGV I think, I placed the bulkheads as suggested and ended up a weirdly bulged hull. Luckily the kits have a double laminate hull plateing and I didn't put on the finished skins. Hope the wordy answer helps. In all they make some pretty kool kits and fit well just be on the lookout!

CMDRTED thanks for the info on fit issues, I have the YAMATO kit, that is why I asked.
Here is a link to a new 3D model of YAMATO http://www.3dhistory.de/index-frameset_e.htm

Some progress - built the tower - glued metal dowels (from flower arranging) with super glue. Went together fairly easily. First time I tried something like this, seems to have come out pretty good. First two pictures are prior to painting.
