FGS Bremen - WHV, 1:250

Just for fun, I dug out some of the older paper models that I’ve built over the years. Sadly, most of the ships I’ve built have not survived the passage of time for one reason or another, but there are couple and it’s always fun to look at them and think of how I would do things differently now.

This is the Wilhelmshaven 1/250 Bremen - a modern German frigate. I'm not certain, but I’m fairly sure that I built this kit in 1990 - hard to believe it was 20 years ago! I used to work as a laser technician at a business that does laser engraving. I experimented with cutting the railings out of manila folders. They came out reasonably well, but not as good as railings that are commercially available these days. The laser system I was using wasn’t ideal for this kind of work. I made a walnut base and plexiglas cover for it which is one reason it has survived as well as it has.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy seeing this blast from my past.

Cheers, Corbin

Neat.

Recently I have developed a bit of a passion for 1:250 ships but I clearly have a long way to go!

Best

Hello Corbin,
Great looking ship. Twenty years old? Looks like you finished it last week. A good tribute to the longevity of paper and card.

Hello Corbin,

this is the first time I saw a model of this type build in a quality if you did from the WHV frigate; the original was based on the Dutch kortenaer class ... following the time of this class on duty a lot of modifications have been made. Last night I had a talk to the designer of this cardmodel - it will be upgraded in the next time to be on the nowadays level ...

With lovely greetings
the Wilfried

Thanks for compliments everyone.

Wilfried, I will look forward to an upgraded kit of the Bremen. It would be nice to have them side by side for comparison.

Cheers, Corbin
