IJN Kirishima, GPM, 1:200

Winter 2004 and spring 2005 I finished Kirishima, a Japanese battleship. The model is quite simple, so I used more detailed equipment from other models. So, boats, AA guns, searchlights etc are replaced. For more details I used an 1:200 plan I bought in Japan. Bridge windows were printed on transparencies. The hull was smoothed, sanded and air brushed.

I've looked at these photos repeatedly, but just now noticed the broadside view with the foliage in the background. It looks like the Kirishima slipping past a South Pacific island -- maybe heading out for the Second Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in November 1942. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_B...of_Guadalcanal

That`s the good thing about card modeling: even with an "old" model you are able to get a satisfying result when using good reference material and taking better or more detailed items from other sheets. It´s easier and not so dear as with plastic models.
