Hello Marco:
This interesting and unique project continues nicely. I must ask: the shade of red used is so brilliant. Is that the shade of red used on the actual rigs? Or does it vary depending on who owns the platform?
Mike

It is indeed very dependent on the operator, and after the refurbishment this rig was given a very bright colour; the picture on the cover shows the actual rig as it is in the shipyard in Poland. It is not usual that the entire drilling rig has the same bright colour that is normally used for lifeboats and -rafts. It very much improves visibility though if it is a rig that is used in busy shipping lanes - you see bright colours (red and yellow) more often on permanent production rigs in busy places like the North Sea. I've enclosed one of my own pictures from the North Sea (taken from far away from a shaking helicopter - sorry): the mobile drilling rig is the dull coloured one on the left, and the smaller red and yellow permanent production rig is on the right.

Just a little curiosity: here is how the Bredford Dolphin looked before the 2007 upgrade.

Here are the heave compensators, and details of the aft deck, where drilling equipment (drill string, casing, risers etc.) is stored:

Marco,

This is coming along beautifully! Your craftsmanship is shining through, again. I look forward to see more. Oh, and thanks for the info on paint schemes. I must admit, I always thought it was just an anti rust paint....color was secondary.

Jeff
