Hello Lex,
I agree with the others. You have done better with the hull than you give yourself credit for. It certainly is a long slim sleek beauty! I look forward to more reports. Mike |

Must have been tidious job to fill the spaces between former but it sure did the trick. Must try that one myself someday. Very smooth and slick hull. Look forward seeing more. Good luck with the build.

Fantastic start, the extra work was obviously worth it.

Hi Lex,
I'm also building the Fuyuzuki. I'm working on the bridge now. Of course, my preference is waterline, since I like to make my models look alive. My goal is to build the model as manned, with 35-40 small sailors aboard. I've found an architectural source for 1/200 people on eBay - they are white plastic five basic positions. I think I can do it. Meanwhile, GPM also has 1/200 - but they are flat photoetch. I have almost no experience with photo-etch so I am still learning there. Tom's Model Works has a 1/200 scale Photoetch kit for IJN Destroyers that is for the Akitsuki class, and I plan to exploit that as well. I have also planned for the main battery turrets, torpedo tubes and main battery director to be movable. It seems likely to me that you are building faster than I can - I only get 2-3 hours a week. I'll post pictures here as well - perhaps others can learn from my mistakes.

Hi all
It would appear the build had went down the drain... not so, [thankfully].:o Although I did find out I needed a lot more practice in dealing with paper thicker than the average office supply version. The superstructure turned out in a mess, with huge gaps with the deck (partly due to the design not accounting for deck camber - a warning to future builds, even Halinski's Yukikaze seems to suffer from the same problem!) Those gaps were fixed with strips of paper, which then gave the second problem of painting them over and etc etc... I criticise other's work a lot, but when it come to my own skills, oops To NimitzFan: I have no experience with PE and isn't planning on getting them on my models anytime soon. But if you do then please post a review of their use

This looks really good, Lex. How did you build the degaussing cable around the edge of the hull?

The holes for the braces were pre-made, the paper cable goes on first and then the braces using copper wire. They would be painted over in the end I hope

Lex, I'd be happy as a clam if I could even build that triple A as well as you have. Excellent work.
I'll be watching..... Swampfox |

Some update on the bridge. Very cloudy in here so apologize for the photo quality (I'll get a proper camera some day...) The rangefinder was a good fit, but the positions for the protruding lens were off by miles (I can't imagine this happening to a digitally produced kit). Finding the proper colour to match the printed one is also difficult, because even the same colour appear to be different shades under different lighting conditions perhaps. With all the fixes I am struggling to keep myself from painting the whole thing over I also failed on the windows, due to an inappropriate construction method they now look like children's toy. I regret having gone for this detail...
