Thanks Lex.
Nice that you have access to a laser cutter.
I used laser-cut parts on one of my projects several years ago and was impressed with their quality.

I'm baaaack

No I'm not away for another 9 years. Just a trip to southeast Asia. Will be busy the coming months though so not a lot of updates.

Let's start today by saying... The IJN design team at Modelik/Answer is, INCREDIBLY, lazy.

To be more precise, I am talking about that stern deck I mentioned on 22 May.

The Akizuki-class always had two racks of depth charges (6 each) together with two pairs of rocket-propelled launchers that propels them sideways once they are loaded from the racks. Those are seen in my previous photos. No issue there.

Then the other details differ. Akizuki (whose Answer kit I also have on hand) had 6 (3 each side) additional charges dotted along the stern edge, ready to roll off the ship, just like on Halinski's Yukikaze. Unlike Halinski though, the Answer kit did not provide them, although 6 rectangles were drawn in their place and an abundance of DCs were provided, allowing a modeller to 'fill in the rest'.

Fuyuzuki had something different, 2 added racks of 6 charges each, on rails, pointing to the stern, ready to roll off on command. The design team simply removed the boxes and replaced them with 4 lines drawn along the deck, the 'rails'. No charges were provided and not a mention of it in assembly drawing. They *must* have known it's there, maybe it's just a late night and they said f*ck it - enough work for the day.

That leaves me to fill in the rest. Tracing the stern, adding the missing parts of the deck. The rails, racks and depth charges follow. Now the stern should look a bit more convincing.

Last but not least, the triple 96 MGs are finished. Not the best of the effort though, I am really bad at metalworks.

*You can also see me correcting a bent propeller while nobody is looking*

(Just to mention that drawings for everything I made are available on request, in case anyone need them on any IJN builds.)

There is a boatload of details in those antiaircraft guns Lex.
Some of those parts are laser cut?

Yes Michael, some of the metal parts were replaced by laser. I tend to make a big mess whenever superglue is involved. There isn't any 'additional' detailing, the model instructions itself suggested making this much.

Small progress. Completed the detailing (and painting) on the remaining main turrets and the triple AA. The gun shields remain to be made, I'm considering using white glue, is there a better way, like, putty or something?

I had a look at the parts box. There was in fact, nothing left. After I mount these, the model can be more or less considered done, judging by what's given. And of course we all know that's not the case. Stage 2 is here and it's not going to be pretty.

Degaussing cable had some additional detailing (the braces) I added. Today's me wouldn't add such thing, but, I'll finish what I started
The bridge has additional railings I'd like to add. The spotter's station on the roof is also needed. The bridge is built around a tripod support structure and parts of the tripod protrudes out from the sides of the bridge. This detail is missing on both Akizuki and Fuyuzuki kits, but would be needed to explain the strange deck shape around that section.
Main mast has a truckload of detail, that includes weathercock and so on. Exact details differ by what reference you ask, possible for different configurations during service. e.g. whether there is a crow's nest, or is there a radar operator's post. I still have not decided what exactly to make
Rear mast has another truckload of detail, including the signal lights
Handrails around the deck, and in a few places on the superstructure
Ladders on a lot of places
The smokestack has additional pipes around it. To make sense of what I'm making, I think there is one steam exhaust pipe per boiler which adds up to six, but 2 pairs of them are bunched together which gives 4 total visible pipes. Another additional pipe comes from the kitchen.
Rails to move torpedoes around, with a torpedo cart on it

Apart from drawings, I'm also using this build to check what I might have missed. Of course this build is the 1945 configuration during Yamato's banzai charge so there are differences to bear in mind. Considering this is 1:700, I think I will be put to shame if I don't manage to produce nearly enough detail in 200 scale

(All of this guy's builds are awesome for those interested)

Apart from that, this resin kit also makes a good reference

Those gun turrets are exquisite.
Regarding white glue: I use it for everything.

Thank you for the kind comments. Mike I will be trying to make the gun shields as you suggested.

The single Type 96 AA mounts are finished. 12 is just on the verge of getting repetitive. The armaments are then mounted in their respective locations. Next up, the masts.
