JSC Mary Arctica 1/400

I know I should be working on the Scud and the Dingo, but I'm lacking motivation. So I'm starting a third build thread. This one should not get snagged by motivation issues.

I'll be building JSC's Mary Arctica container ship. It has six pages of parts, with only 6 pieces to fabricate from wire/round stock. The build should go relatively quickly. Maybe then I'll be motivated to get back to my long term projects.

For those unfamiliar with JS kits, they generally do not require much in the way of laminating on thicker cardstock/cardboard to built. There are a few that do, but not this one. The upper hull structure builds up well, sitting flat and rock solid. Strength is provided by triangular cross sections on each side and trapezoidal crossmembers.

Yes, that is one thing I like about JSC kits(at least the ones I have), there are no hull formers to cut out. Cutting formers out of thick cardboard can wear me out in a hurry.:o Anyways, I will be watching this build...

Here is the assembly of the forecastle. Fit is excellent, though thought and planning are required to get this section together. It's not completely intuitive. The instructions and photos ARE immensely helpful here and building advice contained within should be taken seriously.

Hull sides are on. Fit is decent. On key to proper placement is to line up the stake areas on each side with the markings on the main deck. Then glue the bow and stern areas in place. Starboard side first, then port.

I love the way the forecastle is constructed on this model. The photographs are beautiful by the way, and your modeling skill is really showing up in this one.
