Hi all, continue with the guns.

The SAAR 2 were armed with two 40mm Breda guns, the rear one is a standard, and the front gun had a round shilding. The magazine for around 40 shells is located on top of the gun. As alwayes, the internet is a good place for pictures and drawings.

First, screatch building the aft gun with it's aquare shild.

Next, was the forward 40mm gun with the round shape. For this it was a trail and error progres, ending with a base shape were the side walls were rounded while bonding (with the inner painted side), and another colored layer was bonded on the outside.

The two guns and the rotating launcher are assembeled, and all can rotate 360 deg.

Hi all,

The mast was done for the 3rd time, and the last one. Didn't have detail drawings of the mast, so I used rear and profile pictures, and scaled them to the required scale. As a referance I am using pictures taken by me, of a SAAR 3 missile boat located at the Israeli Navy Museum in Haifa.

For building the mast I used wood sticks sized to different diameters and card board.

Mast structure is done, painted and assembeled. Last 2 picture were taken by one of my colligs - Gadi in a model meeting.

Next, the two single missile launchers located in front of the bridge, and the chafe launchers - made of wood sticks, were assembled. Base of the missile launchers is made of a flexible wire bended to the right shape.

Next steps will be the director, radar and fittings on bridge and mast.

Nice work! I realy love the full hull you're putting on it.

I just started building a 1/250 scale Schnellboot Type 148 from Wilhelmshaven Models. It looks quite simular to your SAAR 2. The major differences are the missle boxes and foreward gun turrent, plus mine is a waterline model. Your pictures of your model help me a great deal more than the illustrations from my kit.

Hi, thank you for your interest and comments. I really appreciate this.

This boats were built in a french shipyard to a german design, based on the Jaguar torpedo boats with emphasis on speed (hull shape) and weapons. After the design was proven, the german navy ordered the Type 148 boats. Actually, the hull of SAAR 4 missile boats is very similar to the 148 typ.

The director and fire control radar are done and assembled. Next picture was taken by me at the Haifa Israeli Navy Museum, with the director on the bridge and fire control radar on the mast.

And as it looks on the model ...

And a close up to this fittings

next will be detailing of the brige, some vents and the search radar.

Hi all,

Thanks for the interest and comments.

This time is about rigging. At the start it looks as a big chalenge, but using a thenique found in another thread about USS Arizona (I think), it became an easy thing. I used a card board, and two types of strings, wraped them on the card board in marked slots. Covered it with glue, and after it dry, painted it in gray.

From each one I had two 21cm length rails.

Next will be the search radar and bridge detailing.
