Dutch Royal Mail ms Oranje
Just a few quick update pictures of the upper promenade deck, containing the first class cabins, the two luxury suites and the childerens decks.
I didn't have time to look for the previous thread with the earlier photo's, so I started this new thread, with a somewhat better title. Sorry for that. So, pic 1 shows the overall view of the upper promenade deck, with wooden strips representing the teak deck, sanded smooth and varnished. Pic 2 shows some details of the childerens deckhouse at the rear side of the deck. Construction is basically strips for the deckhouse, attached to cardboard guiding strips. Windows are cut out and glazed with clear plastic from billing enveloppes, so I have an ample supply for that. The window and door frames were made from thin brown card, that I varnished to represent shiny wood. Nothing complex here. Pic 3 shows the deckplan I am using as a guideline, to measure all sizes of the parts. In pic 4 some more construction details. Hope you like the progress. Greetings Robert |

Here I have some more photo's of the luxury suites, pic 1 and 2 for a general view, and pic 3 showing the bridge deck in preparation for decking and the building of the bridge, wheel house and staff officers cabins. At the rear is located the swimming pool, recessed and with a lido deck on top. I'll show pictures later on, how that looks like. It has an elegant atmosphere of the 1930's in this area, to my feeling.
Hope you like this little progress, and also that you will enjoy the Finale of the Soccer World Championship in SA. May the best team win, and I know for sure who that will be.... greetings, R |

Thanks Don, I would too, sitting on your private deck of a suite on a 1930's liner!
By the way, I noticed you are at 5000 posts, would your last one in this thread be the Golden One? Regards, Robert |

Very nicely done, Robert!
Is this scratch built or a kit you are working off of? Wonderful detail work! Cheers! Jim |

Hi Jim,
It's scatch built, using deckplans of the period ( 1938-1950), resized to fit scale 1 : 180. Somewhere in the deeps of this forum there should be more threads of the Oranje, with hopefully still pictures of the set-up of this model. I am working a little slow, with contributions far apart in time, so that is why it has disappeared in the depths. Maybe you can find them. Cheers, Robert |

Ah, so that's the trick.
Moderator, can we leave these links here in place and continue in this thread, which seems to me having a nicer title? Besides, if I haven't been able to post progress I will now be able to retrieve it after time has elapsed. Hope that's all right with you? As a little reward for all of you, here is a photo of how the model now looks like from a frontal view Regards, Robert |
