1/300 IJN Akagi / Need some help.

Group;

I just picked up from Ron40, the 1/300 Fly Model IJN Akagi. Before it comes in, I would like to know a few things about this model.

1. I just need to be pointed in the right direction as far a some type of build log for this kit. Does anyone know of one?

2. What size card stock should the formers be made of?

Any info would be great.

Sam

Sammuel,
Item #1 I personally do not know of a build thread. However
some European sites may have one.
Item #2 Most of all the Fly Model kits use 1mm cardboard. If
a thicker former is required just laminate another layer of the
cardboard. You can find the cardboard at Paper Model Store
under Manufactures and sub category accessories. Several
thicknesses are available.........Ron

Sammuel,
I looked at the kit and it shows one asterisk for the formers
which means .05mm cardboard. Two asterisks equals 1mm
cardboard.....Ron

Sammuel,
Sorry to have misled you on the 1mm cardboard for this model.
I will include some .5mm cardboard with the model. If you need
more you can use cereal box cardboard as an option. The
model is smaller than what I envisioned. Most of the Fly Model
kits are at a larger scale.....Ron

Ron;

Thanks for all the info and help. What scale do you think it is? Not a big deal to me. I work on 1/700 scale ships, so small is no problem.

Thanks
Sam

Hi,
The IJN Akagi is one of the kits I'd like to build, but in 1/200 scale so that it is at a compatible scale to my SMS Bismarck (Supermodel) and my IJN Yamato (Halinski) so I guess I'll have to scale the kit up, before having a go.
Good luck with your build - it looks to me like a right proper bastard to build, which is just how I like them, especially as I redesign all of the kits I build, so that I can build a detail scale model out of thicker card, internally and externally and for radio control.
LOL

BigBenn;

This really will be a first for me with a large scale paper model. I will take my time with it. I have never done a full hull model in paper. This will be a great challange for me and I will go slow at it.

I will post photos as I move along with this project.

how abouts building her as a water line model, and have a few TBD devastators and some SBD Dauntless dive bombers getting ready to plaster that flat top

wat you could do if you wanted to go all out is get a copy of the IJN Hiyru, you could make copies of the Akagi and Hiyru,, and build the Kaga and soryu... you could have Adm. Nagumo's Midway carrier strike force
