CT is an ace with these CSS models. i'm hoping he'll do some more "opponent" models. good for gaming (and sales). an "Alabama" would be the one i'd like to build, though not an ironclad...

I still have the Alabama and Kearsarge p****tic kits sitting in the closet. They've been waiting over 20 years to be built. Some day I may get 'round to them.

yes, a classic battle for those who have read the contemporary accounts. the sleek alabama against the chain armored kearsarge. raphael semmes is a true southern hero. he commanded some of the Texas navy at one time. truly from the mold of Drake or some of the german commerce raiders, et. al. commerce raiding began a long time before many people realize. being in Texas, i'd like to see the alabama vs. the hatteras... or "how to threaten a federal blockade"...

If you have a graphics program that imports PDF files, that would work also. But I'm poor so I have to do with freeware for the time being. Also, doing it one step at a time keeps it straight in my mind on what's being done to the image.
GIMP is a free graphics program that will import .pdf files and allow you to work on them and save them as bitmaps. It is also easy to learn. It is written for Mac, but you can get a Windows version here GIMP - for Windows

I design my models using google Sketch-up and Gimp. I use sketch up for design, unfolding and coloring. I use Gimp for page placement and adding of text. Then I use a program called Pro-7 (I think) for making them into a PDF format. All are free and are easy to learn.

What was the width of this vessel? She looks like she may have been close to a 50 foot beam.

Thanks
