New WW2 Light Military Aircraft Design Contest
Ok guys, I've finally decided to run another design contest. Here are the details:
The contest subject matter is Liaison and Observation aircraft between the 1930-1950 era. I am a member of the Alamo Liaison Squadron and would really like to see some good designs of these aircraft. I am personally sponsoring this competition, but would ask any designer that participates to consider (i.e. it's not mandatory) allowing us to sell the model off of our website, or a related L-Bird website. My goal is to promote the history of our aircraft, as well as raise public awareness of them. This may include: All of the L-Birds, L-1, L-2, L-3, L-4, L-5, L-6, etc... British, German, and Japanese Observation and Liaison aircraft (i.e. Auster, Storch) Some of the UC utility category aircraft Any design submitted must be a NEW design - no old design entries allowed. Scale(s) allowed: 1:35, 1:48, 1:72 (personal preference rank would be 1:72, then 1:35, then 1:48) The contest will run from now until the end of May. I know that this is short notice, but I don't want this to drag on. Other requirements: The design must be accompanied by at least two (2) progress posts on this thread and three (3) photos of a completed (coloring not required) model - built either by the designer, or a test builder, must be submitted along with the file(s). Judging criteria: The judging will be based on the following principles: 1) Accuracy of overall lines 2) Ease of construction and fit 3) Markings 4) Exceptionally meritorious detail will also be considered Prizes: All participants who complete a design and submit it will receive a copy of Box Seat Over Hell - a book written by a former member of our squadron about the men who flew these aircraft for the US Army Air Force in World War Two and will be considered for promotion of their model. The winner will receive a cash prize as well on the merits of the design (Ask Will who designed the B-25 available at my website www.doolittleraid.com if you want a reference for this). Note: Designers may submit any number of designs - however, only one book will be sent per person. There it is - have fun! Ryan Short |

Stev0,
Don't worry! All of the designs will be judged on their merits. Over the last 8 years that I've been on cardmodelling boards I've seen some "new guys" come out of nowhere with their first design that was every bit as good as others work... Just remember the criteria I laid out. Ryan

Guys,
Here's a bit of encouragement for any wannabe designers that are out there - it's not really too hard to do this. If you will just take the time to try and learn Sketchup and Pepakura, a lot is possible. This is how far I've gotten so far on my first L-bird try. Ryan
