The reports of our community...

It has come to my attention that another forum in our modeling community has claimed that we were recently hacked. The reason for this claim was do the the issue of a couple members profile pages not redirecting correctly. Basically when you clicked on their username, the menu appears with one of the options being a link to their profile page. When you clicked on it for most members, it would go to their profile page. For a couple members who have "-" in their usernames, it would redirect to another members profile page.

While the issue is being pointed to as that we were hacked, we were not. The issue is related to the an add-on that we used to help improve our Search engine optimization or SEO. If you want to learn more about SEO here is a link to Wikipedia. Link Here

But basically the software would take the title of the thread or post or profile and instead of using just using the post id, it would create something like ".../34750-reports-our-community.html", this makes the title easier for Google to figure out what the post is about and to rank it when people as searching for similar topics. That said, there was an issue as the software would use "-" instead of a space between the words in the title. This caused a problem with members who had "-" in their usernames, pointing to other members profiles.

We have since solved the problem with the "-" causing issues with members profiles, and they are once again directing to the correct member. I just wanted to point out that the issue is fixed and that the issues was not due to hacking as the other community has not corrected the information as the the reason for the problem in their post. If anyone have any questions regarding the issue or any issues, please drop me a PM.

Jason

The rumors of us being hacked are greatly exaggerated........... to paraphrase Samuel Clemens

It's clear that a real hacking attack would have been far more destructive than just messing with the redirection of results. Naming "hacking" to any error is just reckless and poor judgment.

Thanks for keeping this forum running properly

Maybe, more on the lines of a 'panic attack' in this case...
