Hard Drive Crash
While it has been a rough couple of days with the site being offline. For that I am sorry. The server we are on had a hard drive that was bad, which caused the second hard drive to become read only so that there would be no data lose. The problems was we has a similar problem a couple weeks back, and the tech moved our database from one drive to secondary drive not realizing the underlying problem. So when the problem occurred this time, the database and the backup were on the same hard drive. They replaced the backup drive but were unable to recover the databases. So the only database they could recover was the database that was on the first hard drive from way back on the 26th of January. So we were only down for about 8 hours at that point, but as we had lost the posts from the 26th on, I decided to recover from one of the nightly backups. Only problem being they have grown to over 5.6 GB and uploading it was a problem. After five days uploading it as it kept starting at 0% when it disconnected, it finally uploaded, only to have it fail when trying to unzip it. It turned out to be corrupt. So after a week, we are back to where we were on the 26th of January. Again, I am very sorry for the lost posts and the downtime and rest assured I will be looking into options so it does not happen in the future. So now you know the rest of the story.

Good thing Jason is that the site is back up....I'm sure many members were going through withdrawls. LOL!
Question though, if you had nightly backups like the one that was corrupted, would others before and after that one also be corrupted? Maybe shrinking down the allowable file size of photos may help in keeping the backup size down. Another board I post to keeps photo file size to 150KB and 1024px on the longest side....anything larger on either criteria wont allow the photo to be uploaded. |

It must have been hard work to back up the site. Thank you for your effort. Later I'll post my new thread started after Jan.26 recaping the main points but hiding unfavorable points taking this opportunity:D
