CorelDraw X4 for all vector and solid fill work, Paint Shop Pro XI for bitmaps (imported into CDX4 as a layer of their own.)

In the past, I've used all of the programs on the list, but for the last four years, I've stuck with GIMP.

Hey Jeff, I use PSP 7.0 because its the latest version of the software that hasn't changed much since 5.5, which was the first copy I ever purchased and really used (before that PSP 3 and 4 were non-expiring trials so I never bothered to buy). Version 8 is where things really started to change so if you ever feel like upgrading but don't want a learning curve, you can go that far.

I use photoshop only for preshading panel lines and rescaling images. The enormous bulk of what I do (for skyline paper models) I do in MS Paint. It's great because of it's simplicity. You can also open multiple instances of it, as well.

Hey Cmags;
Thanks for the info on the next versions of PS. soon as I get a chance I'll be wanting to upgrade, I found a huge PS 6-7 bible at Goodwill for $5 with the CD still with it! I noticed not much really changed, some buttons and functions mainly. Not enought to make a huge difference to me. Jeff |

I have been using MS Paint although I do have PSP 7.0 installed. I never took the time to learn how to use it.
Every time I wanted to do something, I wanted to do it "now". I didn't want to struggle through the learning curve so I ended up using MS Paint because I already knew how to use it. Up until recently, I didn't have enough hard drive space to try GIMP or Inkscape. I had to off-load most of my model files just to have enough space to keep my system operating. Then I had a crash when one of the memory boards failed in the middle of a restore. While getting that fixed I had a larger hard drive installed since I was going to have to reinstall Windows anyways. So now that I have space, I'm thinking of trying out Inkscape because it's vector rather than raster. My big fear is that I'll get myself confused and give up and go back to MS Paint. |
