I am a big fan of Firefox, primarily due to being able to set side tabs, a whole slew of privacy add ons.

Firefox is updated to a new version way too often in my opinion.
And everytime its updated, they change everything for no apparent reason.
Buttons move, colours change, layout changes, settings change.
And all those Plug-ins and Add-ons that you've grown to love since the last version update,
now won't work with the new version update!

Don't get me wrong...I love Firefox.
And i have been using it faithfully for more than ten years.
But it can be very frustrating and is so...so...so...so...buggy!

When Firefox doesn't like a website, or won't get along with something on the web,
or some other application just won't work with Firefox...
I switch to Chrome, my other favorite browser.

I prefer the layout and operation of Firefox over Chrome, but they both have features I like.

I run AdBlock Plus on both browsers....very important!
I also have my anti-virus and anti-malware programs integrated into both.
Both browsers use Bing as their home search pages
but I also have SearchLock integrated to stop all the tracking and unwanted sponsored search results.
(I don't like being told what I want to search for!)

Script plugins cause alot of other problems, so I just allow the browser to do its own thing
and inform me of any script related problems...then I just stop the scripts when needed.
If a website is incompatible that way, or takes too long to load, I am usually gone before it causes a problem.

And why, if you like using Windows XP, you haven't upgraded to Win 7 yet, is beyond me.
Do yourself the biggest favour of your computer life and switch.

I won't recommend Vista....or Win 8....or Win 10...even though there are users who are happy.
But if you are still struggling with XP, I can't suggest it loudly enough...GET 7!

I was going to say Chrome is my browser of choice and for the few instances which chrome doesn't work, I have to fall back on IE11.

But as Dave says....update your OS. Buy a used computer if needed that has Win7 installed at the very minimum.

I have Windows 10 and I have NO complaints. I bought this computer with Win8 installed and I never liked Win8 and was real happy to do the free upgrade to Win10 when it came out. Of course I upgraded my older boy's laptop before my desktop. HAHA!

Long time Firefox user and love it. I have to agree with Dave and Robert. You've struggled with XP long enough. Upgrade to Win 7 (that's what I'm using). Stay away from Win 8. Personally , I upgraded to Win 10, didn't like it at all and couldn't get back to Win7 fast enough. Will probably upgrade to Win10 when I buy a new computer......some day......

Just an idea how old this system is, I got it while we were in Germany,
about 2005.

The info shows Media Center Edition, ver 2002 ser pack 3
Processor =amd athlon 64 processor 3500+, 960 Mhz
960 Mb RAM.

I have to say, the only repair I've had to make was a new power
supply.

To think it still runs as well as it does, I am afraid of what a modern
system would run like. Magic?

If I found the right processor, looks like that one is a 64-bit computer.

I still have my working Xp tower in a closet, one day hoping to reformat the HD in it and run it as a home server using FreeNAS(I think that's the name) and adding more HDs to the tower for more storage space. It's already maxed out in RAM. That old computer of mine is from around the same time frame, 2005/2006. And I used it until I had some software that I needed that would not work on XP. I had to get Win8 because I couldn't find a Win7 computer which fit my needs at the time for the right price.

I've been using Fire Fox about four years now with few problems. Fire Fox also features quite a few add-ons. I like it!

With Firefox, if you don't like it updating itself, and costing you the add-ons
you like most, then set it to Advise of an update, but NOT to install automatically
I use Firefox Portable and am NOT sure what version it is
I get the Pop-up for 47 or whatever the current New version is and simply "X" it
click the 'Close' button

Now Some of my add-ons auto update, but Firefox itself does Not!!!

I use 3 Browsers
Max3 (Maxthon Cloud--again not sure of edition but 3 was what I downloaded)
and Opera being the other 2

Max is Also a Portable version, opera is standard
I did not find a Potable of it when I was looking
(Or was Not using Opera when I last searched Portable software!!)

Thank you all. I am experimenting with Firefox, and it does seem to offer a faster browsing experience.

Now to figure out which addons/extenstions I need.

I still have an Apple Performa 6400 from 1996 that still works like a charm. Can't load beyond OS 7 on it tho but still running great.
