Silhouette SD question - can't see reg marks so I can't cut

I'm hoping this is an easy question.

I have a Silhouette SD which I used happily for a year and a half with my Win7 warhorse, then I moved. I set it back up attached to my new Win 10 machine (the old warhorse was dying), and now it will not read the registration marks Silhouette Studio prints on the page. ISTR a thread about this on the WorldWorksGames forum, but those people have all gone away.

Has anybody here had this problem? Do you know how to fix this?

I seem to recall there was a trick to using the older (SDmodel) cutter with the newer versions (Cameo and beyond) of Silhouette Studio, I'm hoping somebody has an idea about what it might be, because all my efforts have failed.

i can only think of a few things that you can do to fix this. are you using the correct reg marks? if using Silhouette Studio you need to select the "TYPE 2" for the SD. also have you tried more lights. i know it sounds funny but i have a desk lamp pointed into my machine so it will see the marks better. is the sensor functioning, do you see the red light when the machine tries to read the reg marks? have you tried rotating the sheet?

Thanks! I've done some of these but not all, I'll try them out.

I have tried rotating the sheet, I am using the SD-type reg marks, I haven't looked for the red light but I will, and I move a desk lamp over to the machine, my new location is much darker than the previous (it was right by the window, now it is in a darker room).

There is a pdf available with a Silhouette Cameo Regmark Patch Kit if the registration marks are causing some trouble.
Fun Stuff – Genet Models

Here are a couple of quotes about the sheet:
Quote:
MelEbbles:The basic idea is there's a sheet of new Cameo square regmarks for the bottom left corner. You slit them out and stick them over the old Silhouette SD/Craft ROBO regmark, and shazam, Bob's your uncle. Well, that's the theory anyway.

Thanks, I might try printing a page with Cameo reg marks to see if the updated Silhouette Studio software reads them better.
