Images disappearing from thread

Good evening,

I don't know if this belongs here, if not, please move it to the appropriate topic.

A while ago Photobucket had stopped their 3rd party hosting. So for my next build I started uploading images to my Facebook account and linked them here.
But for an unknown reason these images are disappearing. And I am unable to restore the broken links.

What to do?

See the topic in question: Velociraptor build scale 1:1

With regards,

Jerry

Just my guess...
I'll bet this is a response by photobucket for the "fix photobucket" browser extensions.
The app is a plug-in for Firefox and Chrome that kills that p-bucket "3rd party linking" gray image that has been appearing in place of your photos.
Pbucket is a vile company that is just getting worse in my opinion.

...
oh wait...
the images that are disappearing?...are facebook images?
not p-bucket?

ah...my mistake.
My opinion of p-bucket still stands though. lol

I had an issue with the direct links of facebook images.
Some worked, some didn't.

I couldn't figure it out.
Must have something to do with their servers and their storage.
How they link and store images.

Anyway, I decided not to use facebook for my image linking.

Maybe, but that shouldn't have any effect on 3rd party hosting images from Facebook should it?

I think this is a Facebook thing, I have noticed that as well, over time links to pictures i have posted, have disappeared as well.

that is the only guess I am taking right now,

So there can be nothing done about it?

If it is a Facebook issue, probably not

The only other option I can think of, is to eliminate the post edit restriction so people can re-edit their posts and fix links and such

Although I wish I could edit many older posts, with over 11,000 posts, there are just too many to worry about.
To date, I've managed to change photos in only about half of my posts on my own forum.
And I've made less than 3000 posts there.
I don't have the energy to do it here aswell.

Personally I think its dangerous to allow full editing of posts for everyone.
Way too many things will be altered or removed that shouldn't be.
I put in place, the same short term post editing option on my own forum.

I'd love to see the admin take a stand and delete a lot of the really unwanted posts.
A little thread pruning can help with things like tutorials and other instructive threads.
But I wouldn't give the monkeys access to the banana plantation!

Maybe you could offer to help some people fix old posts and photo links.
Only if they provide you with a concise list of the images, their locations, and the new links to be installed.
Its a lot of work...and its not this forum's fault that this is happening.

I second that opinion. After a while (6 months +) the links start to disappear. Some sooner, some later. It looks as if the pictures are removed automatically to some sort of repository to allow smooth browsing through the main FB pages. Or the pictures are renamed from time to time which also breaks the links.

@Jerry V : Have you considered asking FB about the issue?

That'd be nice, but as you say "It's a lot of work" and I can't see it happening.

Just for future reference ... What system do you use to post pictures now Dave?
