that was a fantastic and awsome work!!!

Sad that I discovered this thread after buying the model, but very interesting both for building operations and for numerical modelisation.

Talking Lun Ekranoplan Model

Hi Strike,

Thanks for an amazing model of the 'Lun' ekranoplane - I bought from Chris yesterday. I look forward to building it.

Did you know that the 'real thing' can be seen on the satellite photos on Google Earth? Just write 'Kaspiysk, Russia' and you will find yourself on the western shores of the Caspian Sea, in Kaspiysk harbor. It's quite amazing what you can actually discover, if you get close enough;

Besides the 'Lun', which resides on a special island dock in the harbor proper, furthermore, quite a bit further down south along the shoreline, the more recent 'Orlyonok' and several other much smaller ekranoplanes (some even in parts) and also what appears to be hover crafts, can clearly be seen at a naval base just inland from green waves of the the Caspian sea.

All the best from Stockholm,
Bengt :D

The Lun ekranoplane on it's own 'island dock' in Kaspiysk harbor:

A-90 Orlyonok in Kaspiysk

Hi Storky and shrike,

I obviously hadn't read the whole thread that well . . .

On Google Earth, a bit southeast of the main Kaspiysk harbor, you may see what I think is one of the A-90 Orlyonoks ('Eaglets'), parked on the tarmac of a hovercraft base. It fits in well with the well-known Russian video clip, where a reporter walks around the Orlonyok, talking about it and showing the cargo door opening and it's other main features.

All the best from Stockholm
and a very Merry Xmas,
Bengt :D
