Is it really necessary to wait for 10 posts to be able to post a picture?
I was on a website where I had a real question, and it was a complete waste of time to get to 10. Can't that be turned down to something like 3 where when the third one is posted it automatically goes to a moderator for review for valid content and then approved for full status? that should be more than adequate to keep the spammers out.

Unfortunately yes...it is necessary. I think 10 was decided because spammers don't hang around that long to post up to 10 posts, links or photos....Jason can weigh in on why 10 for sure.
Anyway, here, the first post is earmarked for approval by a mod..which we have to determine if they are a spammer or not in that first post. I don't think the software allows for tweaking in that aspect. |

Yes, it is necessary. We had this discussion between admins/mods, and it was necessary due to the fact spammers and spam bots were persistent.

Jon,
and in your case, 10 posts were 1013 posts ago, and from the date of your joining the forum, you are good to go, we didn't have those restrictions in place back then. Rick

No, we didn't have restrictions back then and the Admins/mods were going nuts trying to catch spammers before they posted their stuff and, when they missed it, deleting it before the majority of the forum saw it.

I know that but there was a new member that had a build and wanted to post pictures but couldn't. couldn't you just put posts with pictures on "must be reviewed by moderator" for the first 10 posts?

That's why I keep mentioning that new folks can post photos using the attachment feature... so they can post photos, but not from a url, and they have to be below a certain size

What VK said ^^.
If a member uses the attachment feature of a post or uploads photos to their personal gallery here on the forum, the new member should be able to post photos with less than 10 posts. |

Hello folks,
I didn't remember that this kind of restriction was ever a problem. Please remember, too. Some people here pay money and invest a lot of time for keep on running this forum for a lot of members, who share their ideas, building reports and pics. So we (the members) have a comfortable platform for a enrichement of our hobby. Only a few people can disturb or even destroy such a tool like this forum. I agree with the minimal arrangements for protecting this forum. My two cents. peaceglue
