Need WWII German Gas Cans

Dear List folks:
Some time last summer I saw Gas cans in severial scales said is'nt that nice and went on. NOW I have started a diaroma With a 1/35 scale Kubualwagen and I just had a friend use his new 11x17 color copier to blow up the 1/50 scale AEC Dorchester 168% to match the Car. Looking at pictures of the dorchesters in North Aferica most of them have racks of gas cans on top. I hope someone has the adress of paper gas cans. Also I'm tring the layering Idea so far so good.
Thanks Miles Linnabery, Youngstown, NY

Miles,

I did a series of “Jerry Cans” based on the free GPM Jerry cans (with permission from GPM). You can find them on the Z site or I can email you a copy just drop me note via private message. I corrected an error in the GPM version the spout should be off set too one side. They are in two colors with markings for both Heer and SS versions and there is a couple of water cans. They should scale down to 1/32 but they will be difficult to build in that scale. For 1/32 scale I would print them on 24 lb paper.

Thaipaperwork has a 1/35 SdKfz 234 Puma which has jerry cans on the fenders.
See: 1/35 SdKfz 234 “Puma” | Thaipaperwork

If you have any other 1/35 scale German vehicles, there is a good chance that jerry cans were included with the model.

The gas cans on GPM's site should be 1:25.

Print them at 1/2 the scale or 50% reduction.

a lot of times we have discussions about scale...
what scale is it? what scale should it be?

I just wanted to suggest something that I generally do
and it includes ignoring the possibly misleading scale that came applied to a model.

The internet is a wealth of information and you can easily find specs and sizes for just about anything in the world
including wheelbases of vehicles, wingspans and the relative size of a "jerry can"

I will do a simple calculation before I start.

For example...a real jerry can is 18.5" tall (20ltrs)
and I want it at 1/24 scale...then I will produce it at about 3/4" tall

and if I want one that is 1" tall...then it would be end up at about 1/18 scale

Usually I will ignore the stated scale of the model and measure something on the vehicle I know...
for example the wheel rim on a WW2 era Military jeep is 16"
(I know, I know, there are also 20" wheels!)

so, my 20 ltr jerry can will be fractionally larger than the wheel rim diameter to be in proper scale (regardless of the scale of the vehicle)

just some food for thought

oh and some found info too:
Standard 20ltr "Jerry Can" that, according to sources,
still has the same shape and construction as the original German invented WW2 Steel Fuel Cans
  • 20L steel fuel can
  • Pin design locking cap
  • Size: 470mm x 350mm x 170mm
  • Empty Weight 4.5Kg

Do they have to be paper? I have a set in 1/32 scale plastic that I will never use.

And, I defy anyone to spot the difference between 1/32 and 1/35 with their eye.

oh sorry...missed the request for 1/35 scale...

paper Jerry Cans would be 13.5mm tall (1/2" or so?)
...I'd go for the plastic ones! lol
