i have been in contact with them and they are very helpfull. i am going to "play" with the program a bit as i think it may be a much better alternative than pepakura. alot more functionallity. it also supports a higher materials resolution than pep. but we will see.....

Re: papercraft 3d
From the spec list it imports Meta so I'll be interested in how you get on.

Re: papercraft 3d
well right off the learning curve is steep. the manipulation interface is not intuitive and really complex. i also just ran into an "out of memory" problem. im getting ready to write them about it as i have 3 gigs of ram and shouldnt have that problem. i still feel there is some potential here so im not giving up.

Re: papercraft 3d
just heard back from the guy on the memory thing. this program was made for low poly models.
"1. Your model's geometry. Papercraft3D is designed for low poly models. The program can handle large models (10,000+ verts, polys), however, performance will be reduced dramatically. 2. Your model's textures. If you're loading many high resolution textures (e.g. 4096 x 4096), " my Ak is not that complicated a model and it is killing the performance. so i dont think ill be pursing this program.

I've been using Papercraft3D's sister app, ultimate Unwrap3D for a while now. Yes the learning curve is quite steep on both apps, although the experience with unwrap3D has helped as the interface is more or less identical. I've not experimented much with Papercraft3D as I'm using Pepakura. However the price of Papercraft3D is very modest compared to Pepakura High Resolution. Be interesting to see if Papercraft3D gets the improvements Unwrap3D has had over time.
