some paper hingesI have been working on

thought I would challenge myself to design a working hinge made out of paper,.. the idea intrigued me when researching armor models mostly WW1 Tanks

example of tank hinge in this picture

I thought if anything was built to a size worthy of having opening doors, I thought of how could I pull off an all paper model? without excessive foreign material?

I started to draw a few patterns that i thought would work and proceeded to build them all failed because of complexity till I had a form of success on my 4th attempt

here is a screen capture of the two part hinge (out of scale of course) on actual scale the "rivet" is 1/16" diameter

thanks for sharing it, HMCS.

here are the parts cut out,.. with excessive material added for shaping rolling cutting away to make rom and ease of manuevering then glueing then final triming,.. net to the cut out parts is a 1/16" hole punch and some simple paper rivets to be added

hi zeawolves
here are 3 so far,.. the more I make the easier and better they are getting its typical cardstock type paper you would have in a office,.. and they wrap around a 1/32" metal wire that will be trimmed to size paper rivets are also glued on

here they are folded in various positions and free flowing,.. if I want to add more dimension I will probably add glue to the paper rivet so it looks more like the initial photo

here the underneath pic,.. overall not to shabby!

I can post a tutorial on how I fold etc if you are interested,.. like I said it has taken me 4 attempts to get it down to a science,.. will post tomorrow with diagrams

whoops,.. forgot to add the underneath pic,.. over all nice and tight looking!,.. will post step by step tomorrow I am sure there are better way to make them but it was fun,.. next i will make an armor panel and add the door to it to see if over all it worked

Wow HMCS, the mini hinges is looking great. Next thing you now, you'll have dozen of 'steel' doors and 'hatch' that can be open and closed. :D

for the metal wire, will it be glued to one of the male or female hinge?
