Robert... the second pic looks a little risky.
Did you send those models loose like that?

Obviously everything survived the voyage though.
...

I got a box packed today...
my three largest models (Little Willie, the Autocar and my PT Boat)
I ended up finding a very large box, which I cut in half horizontally.

Enough room to put the three models in
(on their bases which will help hold them still)
and then I used a couple of small empty boxes to separate things
and some bubble wrap to cushion the sides.

Wouldn't survive the Mail, but doesn't have to.
I'll use the other half of the box as a lid, and that should protect
everything from the elements. (Gee I hope it doesn't rain!)

I just have to get the boxes to and from the car,
and everything has to survive a four hour car ride.
My car is not the smoothest ride, so I am trying to avoid the trunk.
(Big backseat!)

Its the airplanes I am more worried about....but I have an idea.

I'm a bit intrigued by the sling idea mentioned earlier. I think that is an idea that could really work well. Most of my models are given away to people and institutions that are a two-hour drive from me. I've only had to do two minor repairs, so far, from travel. More repairs from housekeepers at the nursinghome dropping models while they are dusting. On this AC130, I've been very concerned on how to get it there in one piece. I think I have the answer.

Rain? A big trashbag is your friend. Just slip it over the top of the box and you're ready (another bag, three holes in the bottom and you've got a rain poncho for you too ...!)

There was more of that packing popcorn put on top filled to the top of the box which prevented them from moving about...but yeah, they were loose stacked on top of each other while in transit. But for your purposes of hand carrying the box, the models would survive better .

Although, just thinking ahead using the packing popcorn....once you are at the show, you have to take them out of the box which is easy....but to putting back in the box with the packing pop corn already occupying all the space in the box, well, good luck getting them back in without making a huge static sticking packing popcorn mess! ha! I think one would have to carry a bag to empty some out, place the models, and then re-fill the packing popcorn.

lol yes, I already thought the same thing!

I have a collection of packing materials for shipping,
including different types of packing pellets.
And I know what a mess it can be when you pack and unpack this stuff.
Not something I really want to deal with at the show.

Another possible bonus...may have the chance to borrow a small
Station Wagon for the day, which will make loading boxes a lot easier.

When I was selling mine on e-bay I used to put them inside a plastic grocery bag then pour shredded paper from the paper shredder, in the box all around it. Never had a problem with some pretty delicate parts. The plastic bag keeps the paper from getting inside the model parts

I wonder if you could put the smaller ones in a larger ziploc freezer bag, blow the bag up and seal it, and then put packing around it ... hmmm
