Removing creases from a model base

Hello,

I'm building my first paper model, and I have a question i couldn't answer from the forums. I'm building L'Instant Durable's Chateau de Blois model, and it comes with a foldout sheet that is the base of the model. Because it is folded into quandrants, there are fold lines I would rather not see in the final model. Does anyone know how to get rid of the fold lines?

You can carefully fold the creases in the opposite direction, and run a iron on the backside of the sheet.
And if needed you could touch up the creases with some paint

You may try to iron it. Carefully, and starting at a low temperature.

And always using a piece of cardstock between the creased sheet and the iron to avoid direct contact.

Better if you try the technique in another (discarded) piece of paper of the kit.

When ironing paper it is very easy to apply high temperatures that may warp the paper in weird ways, or just burn it. So do it slowly and with patience until you reach the ideal heat for your particular case.

Sometimes and depending on the paper, a good idea is to lightly spray water on the fold, and then apply the iron heat.

But results may vary. And no fold will ever completely disappear.

Another option is to scan the complete base, clean it erasing the fold marks, and print it. If it is too big for a domestic printer, then a print shop may be the best option there. You'll get a fresh and clean base. And you may even change/add details.

Scan and touch up with an Editor is exactly what I do.

Or, as an alternative, I just use the base as is and then just landscape it with flock etc. This approach works well with architectural models as they often look good with a mere representation of landscaping.
