Use report: Fiskars Micro Tip Scissors
Last week I reported that I got a pair of Fiskars Micro Tip Scissors for Christmas. Wyvern asked for a use report, so here's my impressions of them.
They are available in USA from Wal-Mart and Bed, Bath & Beyond, both in the store and online. Probably available in other craft and hobby shops also. In USA, about $13-17. On Fiskars website, several color handles available. The scissors have two unique features: First, the handles are straight like pliers instead of finger loops. The ones I got are spring loaded, and be locked closed. I have Osteo Arthritis in my hands, and sometimes it's hard to hold regular scissors. These are much easier for me to grip and squeeze together. The other neat feature is the "micro tip". The blades are only 2" long and come to an almost needle-sharp point. I'm currently working on a ship which I calculated as 1/335 scale (weird scale, go figure!) so some parts are quite small. The micro tips easily cut the little triangular flaps for curved pieces. Overall, I'm very happy with them and highly recommend investing in a pair.

And another paper cutter converted! I am glad to hear that they are still being manufactured with quality. I picked up a pair years ago, when they first hit the stores and never looked back. I'm on my second pair (I don't try to sharpen them)and I have a spare sealed in a ziplock bag stashed in my model cabinet. At the time I bought them, I was afraid that they might have been a test case, rather than part of the permanent line. Also, they were only a little over $3 when I bought them.

I have a half-dozen or so of these little gems. The best scissors I have ever used.

I had been using some for a while and noticed my father having trouble using some regular scissors, so I bought him some many years ago. He was left handed. The Fiskars Microtip scissors work with either hand and were perfect for him.

I'm left handed too, using those backwards right handed scissors is something I've had to live with all my life. And don't get me started on schools that mount all the pencil sharpeners for right handers!

I use this version of the Micro tip scissors
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000950PY...ure-scomp-wm-4 I have big hands and fingers, and I like the bigger loops, and not the small eyes on the standard pair Rick

I have been using these scissors for a long time and absolutely love them. As a matter of fact I have two pairs. I use my older (duller) pair exclusively for cutting heavy formers and other parts mounted to thicker card board. The newer pair is only used to cut card stock.

My housemate is a seamstress and she turned me onto these Fiskers several years ago. I think these are the best scissors a paper modeler can own. They are well worth the cost.

When I read all the great reports on these scissors I went investigating.
Spotlight have a large selection of Fiskars products here in Tasmania. They have two types of the spring loaded straight handle style. The fabric ones depicted at the start of this thread at nearly $40 and Titanium multimedia ones suitable for paper at $30. I couldn't justify that expense on a pair of scissors. Last week I visited Spotlight as I needed a new can of fixative spray. Low and behold 30% off store wide sale. At $20 I allowed a pair of the Titanium ones to follow be me home. Well, they instantly fell into place and fitted like an old glove, it was like I'd always had them. They are just brilliant to use and I can't see myself using any of my other scissors except the large ones I use for rough cutting out sections of pages. I should have bought them sooner. As a retired auto technician I know the value of quality tools. Why should I exclude my hobby. Clive.

I couldn't agree more. My wife was into indoor plants at the time through hydroponics and a pair of these were included. After I tried them realized I would need a pair. So now I have two. Back up you know. Great add to the tools. wc
