It's been a while writing anything substantial, so I went with the layout that was familiar to me and that is one of a scholarly paper. I'll have to slice it into more discrete chapters or sections once I have amassed enough text.

Definitely. I am trying to figure out a way for the material to be self-referential (I had a discrete math book back in the day that pulled it off and it was one of the best text books I've ever encountered.) But I think I'm going to have to rely upon a glossary as you suggest.

@trainfanM - Agreed on the detail of the research.

I guess I don't have much issue with wheels. I just kind of "make them happen". What difficulties do you encounter with them? I think the toughest ones I did were for a 1/6 1910 Harley.

A very ambitious project and I wish you all the best.

How about including a bibliography of websites, On line resources, Search terms to find on line material.

I thought of including a bibliography of sources... but I think that list will end up being very long and get long very fast. Though, I might do it for the topics I cover.

The idea of search terms for research is a good idea.

Extra steps?

Printing two parts pages using one in this instance for flat surface planking.

Note:
A second parts page helps understanding the instruction page during build
process.

On making flanged wheels for loco's and trams, putting on the tread always seems to be a difficult job to get everything perfectly round and square to the axle. Spoked wheels are even more difficult. I have seen those Harley wheels, scary things.

Let me add that to my list and I'll see what I can say about it.

I was planning on covering that in the lamination section. Good call.

Just to give a heads up... I am continuing on with this project. I have 60 pages so far and I'm maybe 1/3 of the way through the outline.

Sounds as if you're really covering the art David. Will the book have pictures or will it be prmarily text?
