Water-resistant paper?
So I'm at the FedEx store this morning getting some stuff copied for business purposes, and they had a display on the counter for "Water-resistant paper."
https://www.fedex.com/en-us/printing...ant-paper.html In reality, it is some sort of plastic. Anybody ever tried it for modeling? I have no idea how it prints or how it takes PVA glue, but the samples looked interesting. Had a nice, smooth semi-gloss look to it. Not as glossy (or wrinkle-prone) as coated text paper. Struck me that it would be perfect for airliners. You can fold it after scoring. No idea if it would keep a curvature if you rolled it. Depending on the cost, I may take some sheets to our next home, in Honduras. Humidity is an issue there.... |

Looks like a different brand of synthetic called Yupo. https://yupousa.com/
Getting the printing done is a bonus. I have experimented with Yupo. Inkjet printer doesn't work. Possible to do a single line, but any "color" pools and is easy to smear. Was making wind turbines at the time. Mike |

As I've been dabbling in light construction work, I've had a "water proof" writing pad for years. I recently found the Rite In The Rain paper. It can be printed on a laser printer or on a copier, but is pretty legit. Not sure how well it would work for models, but I've seen color laser printed on it and it looked nice. I would think that if you had a decent color copier, you could print a model on a good ink-jet, then copy it onto the water-proof stuff on a copier.

I've occasionally wondered if I could overspray my usual medium (HP glossy photo paper) with clear acrylic and then apply decals to the model. I think the clear acrylic would provide a sufficient water barrier.
Anyone ever try this? Thoughts? 😎 Les (The Voice of Authority) |

HP makes a 150g brochure paper that sounds like what you describe. It is for laser printers. I like it. gluing printed side to printed side has been problematic using Aileen's tacky glue. I like the glossy and bright colors. it will take shape even less than fiber (normal) paper, sometimes bad, but usually this is good. It seems pretty waterproof.
There is a coated inkjet paper I have used. The printed layer can even be peeled away leaving what amounts to a decal! But do not use it in a laser, the top layer can separate, and the service tech gets all bent out of shape (says a friend). |

An update: I dropped by FedEx again the other day and asked about the paper. You can only do laser printing on it; the clerk said an ink-jet printer would just leave you with pools of ink.
But here's the real deal-killer, at least for those of us whose name isn't Rockefeller or Gates: The cost is $1.79 per single 8.5x11 sheet. Modeling would get pretty expensive.... |

Dave ... Some time back there was a thread discussing the viability of a spray on waterproofer that you were trying out. I never did follow up on buying any as the need wasn't urgent, but I now wonder what your conclusions and recommendations were on it?

My brain being what it is...
I seem to remember something about a waterproofing paint (or spray) that I was interested in trying, but I never found it in the stores up here. So thats all I know.
