Scales and resizing.

I see regularly questions about the above, such as "I have a model in 1:200 and want to reduce it to 1:400". If I reply to this, it's only seen by the members who see the thread.

Can someone suggest an area where the answer can be seen by all members on an on-going basis? A new title in the FAQ perhaps?

Here's two statements that answer some of the above. Others can be added "as and when"

To calculate the scale (S) of a model measure the size of a full size version (F) and the size of the model version (M).

The formula is S = F / M

Therefor The scale will be 1: S

To calculate the percentage change (C) of a kit to a new scale, take the original scale (O) and decide on the new scale (N)

The Formula is C=O / N * 100

C will be the the number to be typed in the printer when programming a reduction or enlargement.

Cheers
Mike

Here is a link to a scale tool that is VERY easy to use. Has some pre-set sizes or you can put in what you need, it will also give you the paper size you need....Rich

On this whole scale discussion, I have thought that a helpful tool would be to give the finished size of the model in inches or centimeters. Say the scale is of an airplane model is 1/33 and the finished model has a 11" wingspan. This way the modeler would be more able to grasp the size, or at least know if it will fit on the shelf, lol.
