Try Seccotine on the end of a pin. Seccotine is a good paper glue also. In my youth (1950s/60s) we used to use this glue a lot as white glue hadn't been invented. Available here from Lucy Coad Square Piano Conservation and Repair shop - squarepiano.co.uk

I'm with Tim on this one, I've tried many different methods but the easiest way is to just buy them, I get my rivets, nuts and bolt heads from Draf Model. For larger sizes I use a rotating leather hole punch and push the round cuttings out of the punch with a wooden skewer.
