I always make a thick paper tube just a fraction smaller than the model tube itself to push a reinforcement ring into place. A bit like a piston. To get them out after a misfitting I use something like a knitting needle to push one side and then rotate them 90º in the tube. You then only have to squeeze a little to let them fall out.

I didn't need the tweezers but they have great prices and lots of other paper helps. Ordered 4 items including the 9x12 mat and it came to less than 25 bucks with shipping. Quite reasonable prices.

Widget Supply is sold out of those ring holding tweezers. Some still available from that EBay link that John Bowden posted. They sure are some handy little critters.
