Small Clothespin Clamps

Modified clothespin clamps have been mentioned before on PaperModelers, but here are some small clothespins that can be modified like the larger ones.

The small ones are 1in/25.4mm long. Paid $1 USD for a pack of 50. The package was probably mislabeled on the price because they usually cost a bit more. They can be found at places that sell craft supplies.

Very useful. I bought a bunch of these some years ago. They came in what looked like a traditional tobacco tin. I misplaced the tin, but get much use out of the four or five pins that survived. Good for paper because they have enough grip to hold things together, but usually do not press into the paper and leave a mark.

Doug,
Thanks for these tips. After reading one of your posts, I made haste to my local Harbor Freight Tools and picked up a helping hands magnifying glass, which is the single best investment I have made towards this hobby and far improving my cutting attempts.

I also use the small clothespins from craft stores.
They work well.

pjabraham have you ever thought of using a Magnifier Head Strap With Lights? There are a lot of different ones to pick from and as it is a hands free item it is extremely useful. Here's just one to pick from. wc

Yep, the clothespins provide just the right amount of pressure to hold but not mar.

I use one of those magnifyer visors too, but the hands free led thing is good for some situations. I can do some very fine assembly work and look up without having to raise a visor. Jewelers eye loupes are used sometimes. Those various type of magnifiers are used as needed for whatever situation is encountered.

Never seen the reversible peg idea before!

Now going to try it out. Great idea!

Thanks for the tip, Wad Cutter. Next time I run to Portland, I'll pop into Harbor Freight and check out the Head Strap. Any tips on how to explain these expenses to the wife?

These do work nice and they are cheap enough that one doesn't get frantic about chopping them up to modify them. Another useful "clamp" is hair pins, bobby pins, whatever the heck they call them

You're protecting yourself from eyestrain as well as from tiny sharp objects that may fly around from time to time, like broken knife blade tips. You only have two eyes y'know.
