The next Question is how long is just right for the length of time to soak the mat for? 5 seconds, or 5 hours, over night?

As regards blades, I get Swann-Morton scalpel blades off eBay SOOOOOO cheaply (about 1p each) that I just junk them whenever they are even slightly dull. I spent years sharpening quite expensive craft blades before finding this.....
