Modeling "Tray"

Thought you may be interested in a modelling tray I use.

I normally just model off the dining room table or study desk - I keep the tools in a small Tupperware container and the rest of the stuff lives on the cutting board when it is not use.

However there are times when I have to move around if we have guests or are entertaining or whatever and I then use this modelling tray.

It is big, which makes it a bit awkward to carry, but it can store easily enough on its side in a cupboard, and more importantly there is enough space to model direct on the tray. So if I have to move I just pick it up and move!

The last picture shows it with all I need to model - there is all my normal stuff there, in fact a bit more than I usually use - I just, for example, normally use the one glue etc. The small boxes hold cut parts and some spare blades.

Thumbs up Great

Always a good idea to put things in trays. Tools and parts and especially small parts.

Only thing is that the carpet below will eat up any small parts no matter what.

Looks like a nice convenient way to sort of keep things organized.

Because I am cheep, I find plastic food containers at stores and community dinners that get thrown away very handy for storage and assembly sorting usually with a cap to capture things. Unfortunately they must be emptied before use for important things.

Excellent device, Kevin. I always like to see other model builder's work spaces, and I love these kinds of portable working areas.

I use trays a lot. I can keep a project going on it's own tray and swap that for another or sit in my recliner and work on it too. I like that big tray for sure.

That's a nice way of keeping the working space orderly and clean.
Very practical. And the handles help a lot too.

Great idea! I have just made myself one as well. Keeps Mrs M happy as I am not ensconced in my cave.

It holds all the equipment needed and this shows the current build, Udon,s Los Angeles class submarine, reduced to 1/200 scale.

Can be used anywhere in the house, well, almost.

All the best troops
