3M Green and Blue Painters Tape

I had a crazy idea about holding model parts together where clamps, magnets and rubber bands won't work. Has anyone ever used these tapes before to join two parts together allowing the glue to dry? I have a roll of the Blue Tape and tried it out on two scrapes parts and allowed to sit till the next day. When I pulled the tape from the parts I noticed no damage to the parts. Before I go and father I wanted to ask you my fellow modelers about this. Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions. wc

No I haven't tried it WC but what a great idea! Been wanting some of that tape and now I have the perfect reason to get some.

I have used it many times to hold parts together, as well as to mask
off silver paper parts to apply different finishes, along with pastel
chalks to get a difference in panel variations.

I use thin strips of masking tape to position and hold parts in place while the glue dries. A word of caution; be careful not to glue the strip to the model. Warm with a hair dryer or heat gun before removing the tape - this softens the tape's mastic so that it can be safely removed without "grabbing" hold of the paper and tearing it.

I've used the blue tape many times. Never had any problems as long as I gently removed it as opposed to just yanking it off.

Thank you guys. I have the blue tape but what about the other colored tapes that are used for masking off something? wc

Gerardo (milenio3) swears by Tamiya Tape.
Some sort of masking tape for plastic modelers?
I always see it on papermodels he is building, holding canopies in place and other things.

I have some tape called PreMask...or Transfer Tape...we use it in sign making.
It holds the cut vinyl while you install.
I also use it for masking when airbrushing.
It has a low tack and leaves no residue.
It would work for you too.
Any art store or supplier of sign making materials sells it.

When I use painters' tape on a cardstock model, I always tap the sticky side a couple times on my trouser leg or the front of my shirt to lower the tack. The little bit of lint does the trick.

Great ideas. I guess I will have to go to the hardware store and buy a few other colors then the blue I have. Thank you very much for your help. The engine part I glued to the wing of the X-Wing fighter came out perfect and I took the tape off carefully and it was perfect. Thank you all. wc
