Sealers for Cardstock/Paper
Hey guys, I'm Nick and I'm fairly new about what to use to seal cardstock/paper. I'm used to sealing and then painting foam with mod podge and acrylic.
Right now I have Krylon Matte Finish and I was wondering if it would be a good sealer for paper and if I would be able to spray paint over it and then use the Matte Finish over it. Thanks |

I use Krylon all the time and it works well. Only danger is that it can fog if used in high humidity.

Krylon seems to produce one of the best lines of spray paints and clearcoats.
At least in spray bomb form. Try Krylon Photo sprays. There is an assortment of photo preservers, fixatives, and sealers from Krylon. I find they work a bit better than the average Krylon Clearcoat. They have one called Preserve-It, which goes on really nice. Absolutely no gloss though. if you are looking for gloss, you'll have to use one of the "clearcoats". I don't seal everything. In fact, most of my models get built unsealed. But when I remember to, I do it. And I do recommend sealing to all my customers. It helps make the paper more liquid resistant. This especially helps with excess glue clean up and less ink smudging. I have tried heavily coating a model with a UV resistant Clearcoat sealer but it didn't help. The model faded quite quickly in the car. Although the sun can be pretty intense through the windshield!

Are you referring to the Krylon Matte Finish?

Yes. Matte and gloss finishes will sometimes mist up to a transparent white color if sprayed in a think coat in high humidity. That's a problem here in Florida. I just don't spray on a rainy day. Other than that it's a great sealer.

If you use a matte sealer from a spray can just make sure to shake the crap out of the can before using. Keep shaking and shaking! It's also helpful to warm the can under some hot running water - just make sure you dry the can off real good before using - you don't want any water droplets dripping off the can onto your paper.
