Comic Book/Magazine backer board.

i was recently in in a comic book shop looking around when i came across the backer board storage section. i was wondering if anyone has tried using backer board in their models. this card was very still and i thought it would make great bulkhead material as well as work for some larger models. i was particularly interested in the Magazine backer board as it comes in 8.5x11. they only had a few so i special requested a pack for testing purposes. the price on Amazon varies from $17 to $25 per 100. most are .25mm thick and acid free. the ones i checked out had a smooth coated side which might be good to print on and a slightly rough side.

when i get my stock i will post back on how well it works out.

Yankee Boy has used this source of cardboard for many years and reports that it is very suitable for paper modeling.

I have used this for many years. It's prime advantage is that it is fairly dense (i.e., not "spongy) and responds to every adhesive I have tried. It is acid-free "archival" grade so is very long-lived and does not deteriorate with age. I use "Ultra-Pro" brand and have been very satisfied with it. It can be laminated to the desired thickness with spray contact cement (3M, etc.) using additional boards and/or in combination with card stock. Not as inexpensive as cereal boxes but a bit higher in quality.

3 weeks ago I was in a local Niagara falls Comic book shop with some of the clients I got side tracked with the backing boards they sold it by the piece and by the pack. Now I will take my calipers and get some to try.
