Bob ,I'm being dense. is the tissue layer under the printed part for cushioning and the burnishing done on the printed side of the part? the effect is very cool!

I think yes, the tissue is under for cushioning.

Burnishing would be done on either side? Depending on which side needs the indentation or "valley"?

Here is how I see it.

The tissue would be used for cushioning and to provide some give so the burnishing will be effective.

Put the tissue on the light box, place the part on the tissue with the printed side down to allow access to the backside. The light box will provide enough light to shine through the tissue and the cardstock so the details on the printed side can be seen. You can then burnish the lines needed so when you view the part on the printed side the line will be raised to give a more 3D effect.

Before I purchased light tables, I would tape Kleenex to a sunny room window
and burnish paper model part pages there.

I have a thin 9" x 12" LED light pad that I use when I remember that I have it and decide to dig it out of where ever it is hiding at the moment.
