Metal Parts
Exposed metal parts
PE, ladders, railings What technique would you normally use to join metal sheet/wire to themselves/paper? How would you pick your technique, and any tips on their application My experiences are: White glue will not work UHU works but doesn't seem to be stronk enough CA is stronk, but brittle when put under high stress, and somewhat difficult to control as the liquid form rolls off from any bare metal surface. I have seen soldering used on PE for plastic kits, do people do similar things on ship's railings and the like? It seemed to be an attractive option for metal-to-metal contacts Discussions and advices welcome

I use CA which I'm not real happy with. One thing I've found that helps is to really clean the metal area to be glued and roughen it slightly with sandpaper.
A friend of mine that stratchbuilds firetrucks in 1/32 using a lot of brass has got into induction soldering. He got a commission to do the New York City Super Pumper set in 1/16 and realized he'd need something more secure. He got the set up from Micro Mark and really likes it. Little pricey unless you use it a lot. |

You can try Zip Dry glue.
I know many people who use it for just that purpose.

I have found the following glues to do a good job gluing paper to metal
Ultimate Glue, yes that is the name of the glue https://www.walmart.com/ip/The-Ultim...93&athena=true This glue does not do a great job gluing plastic to paper. 5Second FIX glue https://www.amazon.com/Second-Fix-Li...nt=&hvlocphy=9 This glue used to sell for $20 for a tube and for how well it works it was worth the money. If you shop around you can get 4 tubes for around $10. The glue sets up using UV light (supplied with the glue) and remains a little flexible when it sets up. Works great for the fiddle rails on a ship model. As Whulsey pointed out the metal has to be clean. I soak metal parts in white vinegar this clears all of the grease residue from handling the metal parts and etches the metal. Jim Nunn
