WWI airplane wing ribs?

I want to get into building WWI airplanes and was wondering how people achieve the appearance of ribs pushing through the canvas of a wing. For example, in the image below:

how could I achieve the effects indicated by the red arrows?

a light box or a window would allow you to scribe/score the ribbing from the back side of the sheet of paper.

depending on the scale, and the internal framework, you could moisten the reverse side, and rub the "skin" into the voids in the framework

Howdy Kazik,

I tape a double layer of kleenex on a light table , you could use a sunlit window,
then tape the parts page face down onto the pad of kleenex. Press using a burnishing tool , anything with a round tip the size of the ribs.

This is the technique I used in the Fokker D.VII:

Ernst Udet's Fokker D.VII (design by Fitter)

First glue thins stripes of cardstock from behind where ribs are supposed to go. Do not glue them to the very trailing edge, just a few millimeters inside.

Notice I didn't glue ribs on the leading edge either, as it would make it difficult top bend the wing afterwards.

Once they are very dry, turn around and press firmly from the front to mark the ribs.

Use precaution in this step to avoid damaging the paper or the print.

And there you have it. Nice effect.

Hope it helps

I usually use an old ball point pen refill (without ink) to mark out the ribs from behind so that the outer side is protruding according to the 1/72 scale of the model. For some ribs I use an actual rib inside the wing but not required for all the ribs so I make it for every three ribs.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Aadil.
