You will get a lot of different information on glues. White pva is ok. One of the brands readily available in the USA is Aleene's. I use Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue most of the time. Sometimes Aleene's Fast Grab Tacky Glue in a purple bottle is used.

Ask around what carpenters are using.Their grade PVA is stronger and "tackier" than school grade white glue.I mix them both 50/50-result works for me.

This is what I use for everything except laminating. You can get it in most art supply shops and it usually costs less than 3 USD per tube. You only have to use a very thin coat, so it will last through several models. It gives you about 40 seconds to get the parts aligned. After that, the parts will not move. At about 60 seconds, the glue has set (this may vary a bit in damp weather). It will cure in a couple of hours, but I usually leave it to cure overnight.

Dear Ugly Guy:
I also use Aleenes Tacky Glue in the Gray Bottle, Craft, Sewing stores, Art Supply stores, Walmarts, I used to spend time in Denver and Colorado Springs and Erik J. Still lives in Colorado Springs.
Good Luck in Finding a new Glue,
Miles

A tip, try this, that, the other, etc. Always use PVA, other carpenter's tail, uhu, infinity of opinions. Try until you find the one that feels best to you.

Elmer's X-Treme School Glue Stick
And if you do a search on the word glue, there will many a thread coming in return, and like people driving different cars, there are differences in the glue selection that every one likes

Welcome to Colorado!
Couple of the glues I use are the Elmer's clear glue, Elmer's Craft Bond and Beacon zip dry, and Aleene's Original Tacky glue.
