2 mm cardboard
Hello,
I have a kit that asks for really thick card for the skeleton. I'm trying to see if anything this thick already exists, or if I'll need to laminate chipboard. Cutting through two chipboards, with a layer of glue in between is going to be a nightmare! |

Be prepared a few blades. There is cardboard of 2mm, but at least here tends to delaminate at the edges.I learned that it is better to laminate in thinner layers, it is more compact. That yes, this is knife destroyer.

Personally I substitute 1/16" balsa wood in place of the 2mm card stock. You'll find it cuts so much easier.

If you go for the cardboard option (instead of the suggested balsa) do not try to cut it in one pass. Never. You risk losing fingers and all that.
Instead, make several passes to cut through the cardboard progressively. That's much easier, and a lot safer.

I like the balsa idea.

Or make the cut with fine tooth blade in a jewelers saw. https://www.micromark.com/Web%20Stor.../22105_R-1.jpg No endorsement of MicroMark is intended, they just have a good picture of a jewelers saw and bench-block in use. |

2mm foam board. Still strong but cuts like butter...saves blades, fingers and band-aids...

Have you tried corrugated cardboard, it cuts fairly easily and is readily available.

How does it take to sanding? These ribs will require a good deal of profiling.
