Making small domeshaped parts.

Every now and then we face the need to make small domeshaped parts.
Right now i have to make some hub covers for the tank im building.
Some years ago I came across a steel tool used by goldsmiths.
Its three rows with different sizes of dome halfs.
So I use a rounded tool with cirkular movements to press the flat piece down in one of the halfdomes.

That one! That one there!!!
A few days ago I asked hints about how to build a 1:48 Saturn V's part that gives me some problem.
A friend here gives me a possible useful solution, but this tool is fantastic.

I don't think it's easy to find, I don't even know how it's called.
How did you come across with it?

Here is an experiment I did to find a way to help with petal domes using a quilling mold.
Lighthouse Darßer Ort with Natureum Darßer Ort
The process starts at post number 14.

dapping or doming block, I used to do a lot of jewelry work for a studio, spent my days dapping silver, brass, bronze, copper, etc for making ear-rings... and I NEVER connected the idea to use it to form paper...*head desk*.
